Faroese language studies

Av Michael P. Barnes, del 5 av serien

This volume contains nine articles on different aspects of the language of the Faroe Islands. Four of the contributions have syntactic themes, dealing with questions of reflexivisation, case-marking, word-order and the occurrence and status in Faroese of "Island Scandinavian" features. Three explore the interface between syntax and meaning in the fields of prepositional and auxiliary-verb usage. Brief treatment of the phonological development /th/ > /h/ ini medieval Faroese and an essay comparing nineteenth-century language (re)creation in the Faroes and Norway complete the collection. The articles, which first appeared between 1981 and 1998, offer varying insights into the smallest and least studied of the Scandinavian languages.
