Agroforestry is a land use system that allows for the concurrent production of trees and agricultural crops from the same piece of land. It has a rich history of development and has been practised in some parts of the world for more than 6,000 years. The first edition of Temperate Agroforestry Systems concentrated on those areas within the temperate zones where the greatest advances, adoptions and modifications had taken place to that time: North and South America, China, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.  The fully updated new edition introduces the reader other regions where temperate agroforestry research and development are contributing to sustainable food production systems, with new chapters on India, Chile and Scandinavia and two previous chapters, on North America and Continental Europe, being split into separate chapters for Canada and the United States, and the United Kingdom and Europe, respectively.
