Sacred religious scriptures often include significant reflective and practical knowledge about the ways that man has to be at God's disposal. Conversely, institutional religions, social groups and individuals have pondered ways to "manage" God without negating God’s omnipotence. The authors explore this basic duality and its historical implications in pre-modern Europe.
