Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with Individuals, Couples, and Families

Johnson, the primary developer of emotionally focused therapy and a retired professor of clinical psychology, describes attachment theory as a comprehensive developmental perspective on personality and affect regulation and the implications of this theory for the general practice of psychotherapy. She outlines the links between attachment theory and the experiential humanistic model of intervention, using emotionally focused therapy as a guide, and presents an integrative approach to assessment and description of how insights from attachment apply to intervention in individual, couple, and family therapy, focusing on depression and anxiety. She discusses the principles and aspects of attachment theory, implications of attachment science for the general practice of psychotherapy, core emotionally focused therapy processes and interventions that set up transforming moments of change and progression into corrective experiences, and how change occurs in individual, couple, and family therapy, with chapters on key concepts and therapy in action for each setting.
