What is financial literacy, how should it be measured, what role does it play in people's financial decisions, and what is the degree of financial literacy across Europe? This book provides a comprehensive overview of the subject analysing these and many other questions. It differs from previous studies in at least two ways: it summarizes and organizes the evolution of prior evidence, providing a big picture of the research on financial literacy (definitions, constructs, assessment), and fills the gap in the analysis, where the focus has been on North America, by examining several European countries and using data from surveys targeting financial literacy and consumer financial behaviors.
