After a long break, another volume of the international journal Nikephoros. Zeitschrift für Sport und Kultur im Altertum is now available, which will again be published annually from now on. Founded in 1988 by Wolfgang Decker, Joachim Ebert and Ingomar Weiler, the journal, which deals with sport in its most diverse forms as well as its embedding in religion, culture, politics and everyday life, is not limited in content to the so-called Classical Antiquity, but also deals with sport and related phenomena in the fields of prehistory and early history, Ancient Oriental Studies, Egyptology and Byzantine Studies as well as their reception history. Moreover, contributions on other early advanced civilisations, for example ancient China or the ancient American cultures, as well as ethnological works are included.
