A collection of Ioannis Spatharakis' influential papers, some published here for the first time, on illuminated manuscripts from the era of Iconoclasm and the Macedonian Renaissance in the 8th and 9th centuries through to the Palaeogian period in the 14th and 15th centuries. Other papers examine iconographical themes and the wall paintings of Crete.
