The Allied 'Kommandatur' was responsible for the new beginning in Berlin after 1945. Its history is a special case of multilateralism in the web of international post-war relations, national interests and Berlin particularities. Political tensions with the Soviet Union caused the break-up of the four-power administration in June 1948 and shaped the cooperations between the Americans, British and French in forging policy in Berlin.
